In stanza 2, the child-speaker rejects the role of "somebody" ("How dreary"). The frog comparison depicts "somebody" as self-important and constantly self-promoting. WebWe create ourselves based on what others want us to be. Thus, we deny our true inner selves by giving into the society. I feel as if the poet is telling me that to be somebody, we must be nobody because when we are nobody we are somebody. The stanza that I pick in this poem is, “How dreary— to be—Somebody!”.
